Fords New Electric Launch

Ford to Launch Affordable £22k Electric Pickup Truck

Ford has announced exciting plans to introduce an all-new affordable electric vehicle platform, and at the heart of it is a pickup truck that could cost from as little as £22,000. With production set to begin in 2027, this marks a major step forward in making electric vehicles more accessible to everyday drivers and businesses.

A Smarter Way to Build Electric Vehicles

The new process, known as the Universal Electric Vehicle Platform (UEVP), is designed to simplify production and reduce costs - savings that will ultimately be passed on to customers. The platform uses:

  • 20% fewer parts
  • 40% fewer assembly workstations
  • 15% faster build times

Ford is also taking a fresh approach to batteries. Instead of using cobalt and nickel, the new vehicles will feature lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries, which are smaller, more sustainable, and double up as the vehicle’s floor. This frees up space inside, while allowing the electric motor to be placed at the front or rear depending on whether drivers need more passenger room or cargo capacity.

An Electric Pickup with Serious Performance

The first vehicle to roll out from the UEVP line will be a mid-size electric pickup truck; designed to sit alongside the much-loved Ford Ranger. Ford says it will provide more space than a Toyota Rav-4, while also offering a loading bay and even a front storage area under the bonnet.

And while the £22k price tag might suggest compromise, Ford is keen to stress this won’t be a “budget” pickup. In fact, it promises acceleration to match the Mustang Ecoboost; meaning a 0–60mph sprint in under 5 seconds.

More Models on the Way

Ford has also teased a wide range of vehicles based on the same UEVP architecture, including a crossover, hatchback, panel van, and two sizes of SUV. This hints that future commercial vehicles such as the Transit range may also benefit from this new platform, making Ford’s EV portfolio broader and more versatile than ever.

When Will It Be Available?

The new electric Ford pickup is expected to hit the market in 2027, with more details on battery range, charging speeds, and available trims to follow closer to launch.
