Myenergi to Supply EV Chargers to Openreach, Supporting Fleet Electrification

Openreach has taken another step forward in its journey towards net zero by partnering with British manufacturer myenergi to supply its zappi smart electric vehicle (EV) chargers. The move will support Openreach’s ambitious plans to transition the majority of its fleet to electric by 2031.

The chargers, which offer speeds of up to 22kW, will be installed by OVO Energy as part of a wider £3m investment in charging infrastructure across Openreach’s operational sites.

Smart Charging Technology

Zappi chargers are designed with flexibility and sustainability in mind. They can:

· Utilise solar energy where available.

· Optimise charging based on off-peak tariffs, lowering costs and grid impact.

· Operate through a smart home energy management system (HEMS), giving drivers full control via the myenergi app.

This ensures Openreach’s engineers benefit from convenient, efficient charging at home while aligning with the company’s sustainability goals.

Scaling Up Fleet Electrification

Openreach has already invested in:

· More than 5,000 electric vans.

· Over 2,500 home chargers installed to date.

The company plans to expand its EV fleet by 2,000 vehicles by Q2 2026, helping to deliver on BT Group’s wider goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2031.

Judy O’Keefe, Director of Fleet at Openreach, highlighted the significance of the initiative:

"Switching the majority of our fleet to electric by 2031 is a big challenge but this partnership is another important step – giving our engineers smart, reliable charging at home to support a greener future."

She also noted the introduction of incentive programmes encouraging smarter charging habits, including access to select public charging networks, night-time discounts, and driver perks.

Industry Collaboration for a Greener Future

Andrew Clint, CEO of myenergi, added:

"Transitioning such an extensive fleet is no mean feat, but developing the necessary infrastructure to ensure drivers can charge up at home is a huge step forward. With zappi, staff will benefit from one of the world’s smartest EV chargers – simple, intuitive and specifically designed to streamline the home charging process."

This collaboration between Openreach, myenergi, and OVO Energy demonstrates how cross-industry partnerships can accelerate the UK’s shift towards sustainable transport, with scalable solutions for both businesses and households.

Conclusion

As one of the UK’s largest fleet operators, Openreach’s commitment to electrification sets a strong example for businesses across sectors. By combining smart technology, infrastructure investment, and incentive-driven programmes, the company is not only supporting its net zero ambitions but also contributing to the UK’s wider transition to cleaner, more sustainable mobility.
