Toyota Unveils the Next-Generation Hilux: Cleaner Power, Smarter Performance
Toyota has revealed the ninth-generation Hilux, a bold evolution of one of the world’s most iconic pick-ups. The new model brings advanced powertrain options and smarter connectivity, marking a major step forward for both business and leisure drivers who rely on durability, capability and low running costs.
Power options for every need
The latest Hilux will be offered with diesel-hybrid and fully electric (EV) versions from launch, with a hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV) variant to follow in 2028. All models come with all-wheel drive and a double cab as standard - ensuring rugged versatility for both work and lifestyle use.
The diesel-hybrid combines Toyota’s proven 2.8-litre engine with a 48V hybrid system, offering strong towing power and improved efficiency. It delivers a 1,000kg payload and a 3,500kg braked towing capacity, making it an ideal choice for fleets and trades that demand performance and endurance.
Electric capability, same Hilux toughness
Toyota’s new Hilux EV has been designed with the same body-on-frame construction as its diesel counterpart, ensuring the toughness that Hilux drivers expect. Engineers have reinforced the battery system to prevent water ingress or off-road damage, preserving the same wading depth as other Hilux models.
Power comes from a 59.2kWh battery and dual eAxles, delivering a range of around 150 miles, with a 715kg payload and 1,600kg towing capacity. Toyota also promises best-in-class charging performance to help minimise downtime and maximise productivity for commercial users.
Designed for modern fleets
Production of the new Hilux will begin in Q2 2026, with the FCEV model arriving two years later. Inside, the Hilux has received a major upgrade, with quality and comfort enhanced in line with the Land Cruiser, alongside improved technology and safety.
Fleet and business users can benefit from the MyToyota app, which provides access to real-time data from up to ten vehicles. Features include driving analytics, fuel or battery levels, location tracking and EV charging status; helping businesses stay in control of their operations.
Safety and driving innovation
The ninth-generation Hilux also introduces advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as Proactive Driving Assist, Toyota Safety Sense and a Driver Monitor Camera. New electric power steering improves manoeuvrability and stability, especially on uneven ground, making every journey smoother and safer.
